Powers and Roles of the Office
The powers and roles of the Oromia Communications Bureau are defined in Article 31 of the Oromia Regional State Executive Bodies Reorganization Law No. 242/2
=> Serve as the regional information center; coordinate the information work of the regional government; it shall rule; will lead;
=> Prepare government position statements on issues of government concern and require transparency, regional and national events, emergencies, national and regional holidays and ensure their dissemination through various media; serve as government spokesman;
=> Coordinate government communication activities in the public sectors and public development institutions; shall follow up; analyze reports submitted; provide necessary support;
=>  Provide training to government communication and media managers and professionals on policies, strategies and communication skills to strengthen their executive power; evaluate the results of the training and make adjustments;
=> Prepare programs to build the good reputation of the region and national cooperation; coordinates; shall notify; ensure the preparation and dissemination of media programs focusing on this issue;
=> Formulate an agenda on the communication work to be done by the government and the media based on the situation and time; monitor their implementation; provide feedback and direction;
=> Conduct media campaigns to raise awareness among the public on issues of government concern; monitor its implementation; provide feedback;
=> Give press releases to create transparency on key government agendas;
 => Organize photo exhibitions to promote exemplary government performance; it will visit;
=> Conduct public opinion polls on strategic government issues and work on communication; ensure that the media works on it;
=> Collect public comments and requests in various directions; analyzes; work on communications; ensure transparency in the relevant sector;
=> Monitor the current situation and emergencies; create transparency in communications and media;
=> Rotates government messages based on research; inform the public;
=> Organize public discussion forums; collects feedback; performs communications duties;
=> Analyze local and foreign electronic and print media; works on counter-propaganda;
=> Monitor reports and misinformation disseminated by social media; analyzes; work on counter-propaganda as necessary; it also recruits social media members;
=> Prepare government news at district and city levels and ensure its dissemination by the media;
=> Coordinate photo-audio data on government plans, performance and results throughout the region; provide evidence to the requesting body with or without payment;
=> Coordinate best practices on the success of government policies, strategies and plans; organize experience exchange programs; prepare film documentaries for media dissemination;
=> Prepares publication outputs on major government plans and implementations such as the Gazette, annual book, brochures and other publications; publishes, distributes or sells;
=> Provide publicity services in the Kallacha Oromiyaa newspaper and other publications; charge reasonable prices for services; generate revenue for the government;
=> Issue guidelines on communication activities, media such as community radio and print media in the region; ensure its implementation; monitor its implementation; will control;
=> Facilitate the expansion of community radio and mini media in the region to disseminate government information to the public and for government offices at all levels to announce their plans and performance;
=> Issue licenses to commercial print media entities for broadcasting in the region; monitor their operation in accordance with the law; will control;
=> Issue standards with the relevant authorities regarding external advertisements published in the region; implements the scheme; shall follow up; will control;
=> Ensure that entities publishing outdoor advertisements in the region are licensed; issue a license after verifying that the advertisement respects the ethics and customs of the community, that there are no spelling and grammar errors in Oromo and that they are published in accordance with the standards issued; shall follow up; controls and takes corrective action where deficiencies exist
